MMP Foundation helps IES Kids

"An Empty stomach produces an empty mind. Pupils cannot concentrate on their studies because of hunger."
These were the beliefs of Mary Mother of the Poor Foundation(MMPF), a non-government organization who has been helping Ilijan Elementary School pupils from Kinder 1 - Grade VI since October 2, 2007.
But due to budgetary constraints, only two grade level are fed in each day. Mrs Perlita C. Castillo, IES principal suggested to gice focus on Grade 1 - Luna and Grade II - Mabini to feed everyday since most of them are malnorished.
The nutrition advocacy campaign included lectures on proper food intake and to raise the level of people's awareness on the importance of proper nutrition.
Meanwhile, this program made possible through the initiative of Fr. Fernando Suarez, a Filipino priest who is now living in Canada and has been blessed withe gift of Healing.

STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION

Companions of the Cross – February 6, 2008
We have received several questions about the healing ministry of Fr. Fernando Suarez, CC.
Several news agencies have recently run articles about his ministry. In order to address the
questions and concerns that have been raised, we would like to make the following clarifications:
1) Fr. Fernando Suarez is a member of the Companions of the Cross. He is a priest in good
standing with priestly faculties from the Archdiocese of Ottawa. He has been assigned
by the Companions of the Cross to work for Mary, Mother of the Poor, a charitable
organization based in the Philippines which is dedicated to serving the poor. Fr.
Fernando often preaches missions and celebrates Masses followed by prayers for
healing.
2) The Companions of the Cross have a deep love and respect for the authority of the
Catholic Church. We endeavor to minister in complete obedience to the Church’s
teaching and in union with the local bishops in all matters. As a community, “we are
determined to think with the Church and to be loyal to the Magisterium” (Constitutions
and Rules of the Companions of the Cross, C25).
3) Recently two bishops have noted that Masses with prayers for healing were conducted
in their dioceses without their approval. We deeply regret this. It is always our intention
to act with the blessing and explicit approval of the local Bishop. In these cases, there
was an unfortunate miscommunication. It was understood that the local organizers of
these events had already secured the necessary permission. Unfortunately, this was not
the case. Letters of apology have been sent to both bishops.
To insure that this never happens again, a policy has been established whereby the local
Bishop’s written permission must be received by Mary, Mother of the Poor prior to the
confirmation and publication of any future events. This policy, already in effect in
North America, takes effect immediately in the Philippines and elsewhere.
4) Fr. Fernando Suarez, and all priests of the Companions of the Cross, are careful to
comply with the Church’s Instruction on Prayers for Healing issued by the
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 2000.
In keeping with this instruction, we make every attempt to ensure that “anything
resembling hysteria, artificiality, theatricality or sensationalism” does not take place (cf.
Instruction on Prayers for Healing, Disciplinary Norms, art 5, sec 3).
5) In accord with the teaching of the Church, we believe that “[p]rayer for the restoration
of health is… part of the Church’s experience in every age, including our own.”
(Instruction on Prayers for Healing, Introduction). We delight that the Lord continues
to bring consolation to the sick and suffering through prayers for healing. However, we
leave it entirely to the competent authorities to confirm or deny claims of miraculous
healing. It is the local Bishop, in consultation with medical experts, who makes such a
determination.
6) Mary, Mother of the Poor often distributes religious articles, such as rosaries handmade
by the poor, at their events. This is a concrete manner through which the poor
contribute to the work of the apostolate. Donations are accepted for these articles with
the permission of local pastors and event organizers.
While we encourage true devotion to our Lady, especially through the prayer of the
rosary, we caution the faithful against any superstitious claims made about these or any
religious articles. When blessed by the Church, God can indeed use such articles as an
instrument of healing in our lives, but these graces come solely from Christ through the
blessing of the Church and our faith in the Lord.
We apologize for any misunderstandings and hope that this explanation provides clarity to those
with concerns. It is our fervent desire to serve the good of the Church and regret anything that
would bring disunity or confusion to God’s people. Above all we desire to facilitate a deeper
knowledge and love of the Lord in the fullness of truth taught by His Holy Catholic Church.

Fr. Fernando Suarez, The Priest Annointed by God

The Healing Mass A Divine Visitation

I had heard of "Father Fernando's Healing Masses" for some time, but only recently had the opportunity to attend two of these extraordinary masses on the same day.

In the early afternoon of December the fifth, Father Fernando Suarez CC offered a mass to Christ's poor at Our Lady of His Mercy Friendship House, on Wellington Street, in Ottawa. After ministering until 3am that morning and driving five hours directly from Toronto, Fr. Fernando with Fr. Jeff Shannon arrived at our storefront drop-in center in the west-end.
Noticeably tired and weak, with only a small trace of voice left from the late night before, Fr. Fernando, without skipping a beat, quickly slipped into his alb in our crowded kitchen and then stepped behind the makeshift altar set-up in our over-crowded front room. As Fr. Fernando began the mass, Fr. Jeff, his faithful companion and servant, sped-off to procure some wine.

The reading was from Isaiah chapter eleven, the wonderful prophesy where wild beasts will lie down with defenseless creatures "and a little child shall lead them".

The gospel came from Luke chapter ten, where Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit saying, " I thank you Father because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants…" Jesus was most identified with children and those who knew that they were little, poor and dependent.

The gospel and reading brought us to reflect on the child-likeness of Jesus and this beautiful quality so apparent in Fr. Fernando. Even before the consecration, through the joyfulness, littleness and simplicity of His priest, Jesus was already very present to us. At the communion, we felt a profound communion with The Kingdom and The King "at hand". The Infant King, The Christ Child, was with His little brothers and sisters around His altar on the street, in the marketplace. It was obvious how Fr. Fernando was completely at home with the poor. In the image of this meek and humble priest, this compassionate shepherd and tired servant, THE WORD sprang to life and astonished us. In Fr. Fernando's authenticity and transparency, the hidden mystery of the very person of Jesus Christ and His divine intimacy was revealed. In that hushed and crowded grotto of our broken humanity, we were touched and fed by the incarnate Emmanuel, who communicated to each of us, the sweetness of His intimate love.

A friend of mine, recovering from his battle with alcoholism, was last to receive communion from Father's hand. He came to me later to tell me what had happened.

As Father approached him, he clearly heard the words echo through his spirit, "…and the last shall be first". When he received Jesus on his tongue, surprisingly, Father gently stroked the side of his face, like one would a cherished son. With that unexpected loving gesture, his eyes welled-up and the personal love of Jesus Christ was deeply communicated to him. It was both a healing and a confirmation for my wounded friend. He had been telling us for several months, that the only reason he could remain in the painful process of recovery from alcoholism, was because he trusted that Jesus was a "gentle-man" and would not injury him further. Father Fernando confirmed him in that truth in such a way, that he will never forget. Many of us felt healing from the intimacy of The Lord's love that day. Later in the evening, I would witness this miracle repeated again, but this time with hundreds present, as Fr. Fernando stepped behind the altar at St Maurice Parish and communicated to yet another crowded room, through his personhood, priesthood and the Holy Eucharist, the same intimate and personal love of Jesus Christ.

Years ago, on several occasions, I had the good fortune to witness the powerful healing masses of Father Ralph DiOrio and had the privilege of ministering with him on one of those occasions. I also experienced there up-close, the tremendous healing power of Jesus through His anointed priest.

But as I observed Fr. Fernando at St. Maurice that evening and during the day at our center, I began to recognize a particular charism he had. AUTHENTICITY…an authenticity that makes true intimacy possible. In Fr. Fernando's child-like humanness and priesthood, the intimate love of the Person of Jesus Christ Himself, is manifested.

On that fifth day in December, in the course of twenty-four hours, Fr. Fernando celebrated three masses in three different locations, to hundreds and hundreds of people and each time and in the majority of those present, the experience was always personal, intimate and brought some form of healing. Fr. Fernando's healing masses and his apostolate to the poor, as I and others experienced it that day, was truly a miracle of divine visitation. Christ became powerfully present in our midst. Thanks be to God, for these days of His visitation, for Fr. Fernando, Fr. Jeff and for all His holy priests, who are living signs of His Mercy!

Her father iob a balot vendor, earning meager & irregular income. Income derived is not sufficient for their everyday needs. Thier mother abandoned them 2 yrs. Ago due to marital conflict.

On Dec. 20, 2007, Maricah‘s right eye was accidentally hit by a toy marble. Her eye turned red & tears were falling uncontrolably. Due to their financial difficulty, her father couldn‘t bring her to a doctor for proper medication.

It was too late when they brought her to EENT. The doctor diagnosed that her right eye is already deteriorating. An immediate operation is needed to save her eye. And from here, their trouble begun.

Her father‘s income is very limited. They do not have any resources to be used for the said operation. Even their ralatives & friends couln‘t help them because they too are indigents. They asked the assistance of the Local Gov‘t. of Taal Batangas, thru the DSWD, but according to them, they do not have budget for financial assistance at present.

Their last recourse is to ask the help of Mary Mother of the Poor Foundation in saving Maricah‘s eyesight.

Fr, Fernando Suarez- The Healing Priest

Fr. Fernando Suarez was born on February 7, 1967 in Butong, Taal, Batangas in the Philippines. After spending the early part of his life working and utilizing his Chemical Engineering degree, he decided to move to Winnipeg, Canada in 1995. In Canada, he pursued his desire to follow the Lord as a Roman Catholic Priest.
He strongly felt that God was calling him to become one of His followers. In 1997, he joined the Companions of the Cross religious community of priests and seminarians, it was founded in Ottawa, Canada, by Rev. Robert Bedard in 1985. With his patience and perseverance, Fr. Fernando was ordained to the priesthood on May 16, 2002.
Fr. Fernando discovered that the Lord had given him a very special gift around the age of 16. God began to use him in a powerful way as he reached out to people who were in need. As he felt God calling him to minister to and pray with people who were sick, he realized that these people were getting healed. At first, he struggled to understand the gift that God had given him. As the time went by, the Lord put more people in need along his path. The sick and troubled were able to find the healing touch of Jesus through his hands.
To
date, Fr. Fernando Suarez has prayed with literally thousands of people in need of healing graces of God, all over the world, with much success for those with faith. Since his ordination to the priesthood, Fr. Fernando has found that the gift of healing has become more pronounced in him and God is using him in a mighty way. He spent the first year of his priesthood as the
associate pastor of St. Timothy’s parish in Toronto, Canada. Since July 2003, he has been given a new ministry in his community that would help foster and nurture the spiritual gifts God had given him. He now regularly conducts Healing Masses, retreats and missions, with large numbers of people in attendance.
The healing ministry of Fr. Fernando Suarez is just in its early stage and this chosen disciple does it all for the Lord. The Holy Spirit has given wisdom to this humble man who is diligently working in the vineyard of the Lord. The Lord continues to use Fr. Fernando in greater ways, to enkindle a burning desire in the community of faith and in our world, where so many are desperately seeking the love of Jesus in their lives.

A close encounter with miracle priest, Fr. Fernando Suarez

Fr. Fernando SuarezIt’s just a few minutes after six o’ clock at the St. Francis de Sales parish church on Burnaby’s Balmoral Street, and people from all walks of life have already filled the place for the 7 p.m. healing mass by the world-famous Catholic priest Fr. Fernando Suarez.

At the main entrance to the church, complaints can be heard from the estimated 2,000 faithful jammed tight inside the archway, or from those left waiting at the church steps outside in the chill evening air.

“Call the fire department. This is not right,” exclaims one Filipino man, who hurriedly leaves the church against the tide of humanity pushing forward.

Moments later, a man tries to squeeze into the church and desperately asks: “Can I go inside?

An old woman answers back: “No! The church is already full.”

None among them recognise the man who wants to pass through the vestibule.

“I am Fr. Fernando Suarez,” says the polite young man, and the crowd quickly parts to let him pass.

He proceeds directly to the altar, where several dozen ailing and wheelchair-bound people are lined in a row.

Who is Fr. Suarez? And why is it that so many people want to see him and be touched by him?

Over 8,000 people — more than 2,000 per mass — attended the priest’s Metro Vancouver healing masses this month in Coquitlam (Feb. 8), Richmond (Feb. 12), Burnaby (Feb. 13) and Maple Ridge (Feb. 14).

Fr. Fernando Suarez (topstory1inside)Fr. Suarez is a Filipino-Canadian priest who has attracted thousands of followers worldwide with his “miraculous” healing power. In a recent case that galvanized the faith of thousands and garnered the bewilderment of many more, a Canadian woman was declared dead by doctors at the Ottawa Civic Hospital some eight hours before Suarez arrived.

With doctors present and ready to harvest her organs, the Filipino-Canadian priest who was then a seminarian, prayed over her. She opened her eyes and lived.

The woman is now well, Suarez says, and has resumed her normal life. That case, which happened a decade ago, put Fr. Suarez on the Catholic map and today he is roaming around the globe touching millions and working his miracles.

“I just wanted to be a seminarian because probably, it’s better for me to be with the seminary and teach (aspiring priests) how to be seminarians, because it took me 10 years to become a priest,” says Fr. Suarez, reflecting on his early years in the faith when he lacked the confidence to preach to a large congregation.

“I thought my vocation was to be a seminarian because everywhere I go when I left the seminary they’ve been kicking me out . . . everywhere and that’s the story of my life.”

At the time, in his early years, Fr. Suarez was asked to leave the Franciscan Order, the Society of the Divine Word and the Diocese of Winnipeg, which were reportedly uncomfortable with Suarez’ newly-found powers of healing.

“I had reached the point that I got tired of praying to become a priest, but I persisted until I was finally ordained,” Fr. Suarez explained.

In 1997, Fr. Suarez founded the Mary Mother of the Poor charitable organization (www.marymotherofthepoor.org), a Canadian-registered non-profit society dedicated to alleviating poverty by providing food and other basic needs, as well as coordinating heath care and social services for youth.

Fr. Suarez is a member of the Companions of the Cross, and a priest in good standing with the Archdiocese of Ottawa.

In his healing mass homily Feb. 13, Fr. Suarez proclaims aloud: “The truth of the matter is . . . I am not a healer. We only have one healer and that is Jesus.”

“Last night (in Coquitlam), I heard a very powerful testimony. I remember one gentleman approached me and was very, very eager to share his testimony in front of thousands of people and said, ‘Father . . . you prayed over me last year here in Vancouver.’

The man continued: ‘My daughter was a year and half last year . . . she cannot walk, she cannot talk, her kidney and brain are full of cancer, but after you prayed-over her we went to a doctor and there is no more brain cancer and no more cyst in her kidney . . . now look at her she is walking and talking.’”

During the homily, Fr. Suarez makes people laugh, applaud, cheer, cry, and constantly chant: “Praise Jesus.”

“Sometimes we’re always looking for a sign, sometimes we’re always looking for miracle,” says Fr. Suarez. “But the miracle is here right now. Jesus is always here. There is always a great miracle happening every time we go to mass.”

“Jesus is the greatest miracle in our life.”

Fr. Suarez also explains how when he became a priest, he was challenged by so many trials. “I myself taught that miracles only happen during the time of Jesus that the blind was able to see, the deaf able to hear, the cripple was able to walk that happened only during the time of Jesus.”

“Since I became a priest and in my ministry, I saw it every day . . . everything that Jesus did.”

On his website www.fatherfernando.com is a growing collection of testimonials from people from all walks of life — all praising and thanking the man they claimed cured their back pains, stabilised their cancers, and mended their broken spirits.

Soon after the celebration of the mass, the “healing session” starts, with the wheelchair-bound, the ailing elders and the sick children coming forward first.

Among them is 80-year-old Milagros Gastambelo of Bacolod City, Philippines, who has been paralyzed for the past five years.

As soon as Fr. Suarez touches and lifts her up from the wheelchair, she is able to walk down the aisle to the altar.

“This is really a miracle!” tearful Gastambelo tells the Asian Pacific Post.

Josie Tuzon, 44, who was diagnosed with ortho-arthritis, a chronic disease causing pain and stiffness in the joints, claims to be healed the same night.

“I can barely walk and there is so much pain around my knees before I went to the church for the healing mass,” says Tuzon, who is still shaking, crying and in shock as she talks to the Post. “Now, believe me, it is all gone.”

A lot of people follow and speak out at the podium near the altar, giving their own testimonies about the “healing miracle” done that same night by Fr. Suarez.

The majority of those who have been touched by Fr. Suarez either collapse for few seconds or fall seemingly unconscious to the ground.

In addition to his tireless work among the church-going faithful, Fr. Suarez, through the Mary Mother of the Poor society, is currently building a 33-story-high monument called the Oratory Blessed Virgin Mary at Monte Maria, Batangas in the southern Philippines.

When completed, the Mother Mary Monte Maria - overlooking Btangas Bay – will feature a Rosary Garden, Stations of the Cross, several chapels, a conference centre and retreat houses serving as way stations for pilgrims as well as an international center for the poor.

“It is a refuge where the tired soul withdraws to find peace and solace,” says Fr. Suarez. “And thereby discover how Mary comes to the aid of those in need of strength and consolation, the poor in society and the poor in spirit.”

In order to personally experience the “healing power,” this reporter queues and follows the instructions given . . . “Close both eyes and say a prayer while in front of the altar before receiving the ‘healing power’ from Fr. Suarez.”

Surely, I sense a different force striking through my mind and body. My knees wobble at first when Fr. Suarez mildly touches me.

I think, ‘I can resist this force.’ But when Fr. Suarez again touches my head and body . . . I can’t move even an inch of my body.

(Rey Garcia is a visiting journalist from The Philippines who will be writing more dispatches for Metro Vancouver’s Filipino Diaspora in the near future.)

Tomas.

Suarez) na, I want to see Fr. Suarez, he is my cousin.

- The Sun, HK

Faith

Faith is Heb 11:1 “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen,” our firm belief in God and all that He has revealed to us through Holy Mother Church. 1 Thes 2:13 “When you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God.”

Faith resides in our intellect; we believe because God is all-knowing (cannot be deceived) and all-good (cannot deceive), so what He tells us is infallibly true. Our faith must be constant; the apostle Thomas gave Jesus three years of faithful service, but we remember him for his one moment of doubt.

Our faith must be complete. We completely submit our intellect and will to God. Our faith therefore illuminates our daily life. Our fallen race inherits from its first parents a propensity to sin, but our constant objective must be to live as Holy Mother Church teaches. We seek to live by the theological and cardinal virtues. We consciously avoid the seven capital sins. We go to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass every day if possible, or every Sunday at minimum. We go to Confession every week if possible, or every month at minimum. We do all this because we have faith that the Catholic Church has Christ’s authority to teach us how to prepare for heaven.

Our faith is a free assent to the whole truth that God has revealed. We have faith only if we believe in Christ’s entire public revelation. The Catholic faith is faith that Christ instituted a divine institution, a Church blessed with authority to infallibly teach His public revelation. If we accept only doctrines consistent with our own experience we are not accepting them on faith but rather on human analysis.

We begin our profession of faith, “I believe” or “We believe” when proclaiming the Apostles’ Creed or the Nicene Creed.

Faith is one of the three theological virtues. The others are: hope and charity.

The virtue of faith is also one of the twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Healing Priest: Fr. Fernando Suarez

DEUTERONOMY 32:39 “See now that I, [even] I, [am] he, and [there is] no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither [is there any] that can deliver out of my hand.”

Wisdom: The reason why the people were healed was because of their faith toward the man. If you only believe then God will heal you. This man was only an instrument to bring back the faith of the people that there is still a God that heals. Our scripture emphasize that there is only one God, and there’s no other God Moises introduced. The God that know the time, when to give and when to take our lives.

Philippines – He died and came back to life. But after three hours, he died again. According to Hilario and Filomena Tapnio, this happened to their 39-year-old cancer-stricken son Alberto, in a span of four hours, which included a brief encounter with healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez. The Tapnio couple said the first time Alberto died was when he slumped in his wheelchair as Suarez was giving his homily during the 10 a.m. healing Mass on Monday at the Lakeshore Estate in Mexico, Pampanga.Dr. Maria Theresa Velasquez said Alberto was already dead when medics from the Pampanga Disaster Coordinating Council brought him to the emergency room of the Mt. Carmel Medical Center here at 11:40 a.m.“He was DOA (dead on arrival),” Velasquez, the attending physician, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, parent company of INQUIRER.net.“He had zero-zero vital signs. No cardiac or respiratory activity at all,” said Dr. Rogelio Magat, acting medical administrative officer, citing medical records.Fr. Nap Baltazar earlier told the Inquirer that after he whispered to Suarez that Alberto had died, the healing priest made the sign of the cross in the air in the direction of the man who was then being borne on a stretcher.

Electric shocks: In the hospital emergency room, Velasquez said the doctors administered a series of electric shocks to Alberto’s heart to make it start pumping. His heart resumed beating shortly before noon, she said. The family decided to take him home “against medical advice,” said Velasquez. He was not brought back to the healing Mass, as reported Tuesday by the Inquirer. Velasquez and a male nurse accompanied Alberto home to the Bulaon resettlement. He lived for another three hours and died again at 3 p.m., his death certificate showed.

Extension, not a miracle: Although organizers of the healing Mass were quick to announce that Alberto’s revival was a result of Suarez’s blessing from a distance, Hilario did not call his son’s last four hours a miracle.“He got a short extension on life and left this world happy because he saw and heard Father Suarez,” he said. Alberto, an automotive mechanic who became a tailor so he could work in South Korea, left a 14-year-old son. His wife died of cancer of the pancreas four years ago.

Wake: At the wake Tuesday, Hilario and Filomena told the Inquirer that their son died happy.“Masaya ya pangamate. Eya malulam a lupa. Dimdan na ing bendisyon ng Father Suarez. At tinggap na (He had a happy death. His face was not sad. He heard the blessing of Father Suarez. And he received it),” Hilario said.Filomena said her son, who had colon cancer, was given six months to live. “He’s had eight months. [He] really wanted to die in the presence of Father Suarez,” she recalled Alberto saying in early January.

I've had the 'blessing' of attending two of the sessions at CTK's Lenten
Mission. Last night Power of the Eucharist followed by a healing mass was
AWESOME! I witnessed sick people giving live testimonials immediately
following their 'healing' from Fr. Fernando. The first person who received
the healing was an elderly blind man who came in with a white stick came up
to the altar and witnessed he can now see, a woman confined to a wheelchair
stood up and walked out of the church pushing her wheelchair (a parishioner
of CTK and a regular of 5:30 mass), another lady walked in with crutches and
walked out without, neck, back, shoulder problems experienced for YEARS GONE
after the healing. Everyone giving a live testimonial at the altar was
emotional and moved by the healing power of the Holy Spirit. Fr.
Fernando *TOUCHED
every individual* who came up to him with the session ending around 10:45
(mass started at 7:00 pm). People in wheelchairs were first to approach the
altar for healing.
CTK was PACKED with overflow in the Parish Hall. I invite you to attend and
witness for yourself the power of healing for yourself or for your loved
ones. Others brought photos of their loved ones who were physically too ill
to attend or from far away. EVERYONE is welcome to attend.
